Notes: Expect today’s game to be a pass-heavy contest. Michigan’s Devin Gardner and Penn State’s Christian Hackenberg are among the Big Ten’s top five quarterbacks in passing average — Hackenberg, a true freshman, is second (273.4 yards) and Gardner fifth (207.2). … Allen Robinson, Penn State’s top receiver, leads the Big Ten with an average of 124.4 receiving yards a game (621 yards, five TDs this season). … Michigan tight end Devin Funchess is coming off a season and career-best game of seven catches for 151 yards and a touchdown last week against Minnesota, and he could emerge as one of Gardner’s top targets as the season progresses while playing a receiver-tight end hybrid in Michigan’s pro-style offense. … In Penn State’s two losses — Sept. 14 against Central Florida and last Saturday at Indiana — the Nittany Lions’ defense gave up nearly 1,000 yards, including 507 (219 rushing, 288 passing) against Central Florida. … Penn State coach Bill O’Brien said this week he expects linebacker Ben Kline (shoulder) and wide receiver Brandon Felder (ankle) back for today’s game. Neither played in last week’s loss at Indiana. … Michigan coach Brady Hoke said linebacker Jake Ryan (ACL surgery on right knee in the spring) could be available today. Ryan has not played this season.
