INDIANAPOLIS — Behind solid pitching, the Mud Hens were able to beat Indianaplois 2-1 on Sunday to regain a game behind the second place Indians in the division.

With the win, Toledo regains a game on second place Indianapolis (59-58) in the International League’s North Division.

Because the Columbus Clippers won on Sunday as well, the Hens (57-60) remain five games out of first place.

Derek Hankins pitched seven innings of one-run baseball as he allowed seven hits. The only run Indianapolis scored was via a home run hit by Mel Rojas in the fifth.

The Hens hitters put in their work, collecting seven hits.

Shortstop Hernan Perez collected two RBIs hitting from the leadoff spot.

Both runs came in the top of the fifth inning, when Perez doubled to right field. Wade Gaynor and Danny Worth scored on the play for all the runs the Hens needed.

Kevin Whelan shut the door in the ninth inning and collected his 19 save of the season.

Indianapolis’ Adam Wilk labored through his five innings of work with 97 pitches. The lefty swapped four scoreless frames with his Hankins, but after alternating a double and walk between two strikeouts in the fifth, yielded his only runs of his outing in the game-winner to Perez.
