DETROIT — Piano prodigy Conrad Tao is set to perform three shows with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra.
The 19-year-old Tao and the DSO are to play Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major.
The Leonard Slatkin-conducted performances are to take place today, Friday and Saturday at Orchestra Hall. They’re also to feature Copland’s Three Latin-American Sketches and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5.
Tao’s performances are part of the DSO’s three-week celebration of Chinese artists and composers.
He’s a Chinese-American who was born in Urbana, Ill.
Tao gave his first piano recital at age 4, and four years later he made his concerto debut performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto in A Major.
