Skillet bringing Christian rock to Huntington Center

The veteran Christian rock band will make a stop in Toledo on Thursday, coming off the 22-city Roadshow Tour with rockers Third Day and We As Human along with pop singer Jamie Grace.

The Roadshow may be over, but the show goes on for Skillet as they continue to hit the road.

Although it's not under the Roadshow Tour moniker, headliners Skillet and Third Day will start a new leg of touring, kicking off in Toledo, going until the end of March.

Skillet debuted nationally in 1996 and has risen to one of the top working hard rock acts in the country.

The current lineup features the husband and wife duo of John (vocals, bass) and Korey Cooper (rhythm guitar, keyboard) along with drummer Jen Ledger, and guitarist Seth Morrison.

The Memphis-based band has nearly topped three million in album sales, including their platinum CD "Awake" and gold-selling album "Comatose." They have also charted well on mainstream rock radio with five Top 15 singles.

They are touring in support of their latest effort "Rise," which included going overseas with Nickelback before headlining the Roadshow tour.

Songs from the album, "American Noise," and "Sick of It," have reached the top of the rock charts.

Named Skillet because at the time they started with many different backgrounds in rock, the band's sound was like throwing a bunch of different things into a skillet to see what would cook up.

Die-hard fans actually bring skillets to concerts and the band has dubbed them "Panheads."

Skillet has garnered two Grammy nominations and two Dove Awards for Best Rock Song (2008's "Comatose" and 2013's "Sick of It," from their new CD "Rise").

Third Day is a Georgia-based group fronted by singer Mac Powell, guitarist Mark Lee, bassist Tai Anderson, and drummer David Carr.

The group has sold more than 10 millions albums, with 11 studio projects and two live albums.

Two CDs ("Offerings: A Worship Album" and "Live Wire") have gone platinum while eight have been certified gold in sales.

They have numerous awards, including four Grammys and one American Music Award for Favorite Contemporary Inspirational Artist of the Year in 2008.

Jamie Grace is a 22-year-old singer/​songwriter who was the 2012 Dove Awards Best New Artist after being signed by Christian pop and hip-hop star TobyMac's label, Gotee Records.

The Dove Awards are the Gospel Music Association's equivalent of the Grammy Awards.

She was also nominated for Best Contempory Christian Song with "Hold Me" in 2012 from her debut CD of the same name.

She is touring to support her sophomore project "Ready to Fly," which was released in January.

Beginning with this leg of the tour, Peter Furler and his band will perform.

Furler was one of the founders of the Australian-based Christian rock band Newsboys in the 1980s. With him, starting as the drummer and taking over as lead vocalist in 1997 until he left the band in 2009, Newsboys recorded more than 20 No. 1 songs on the Christian rock and pop charts.

The 47-year-old rocker went solo in 2011 with the release of "On Fire" and is releasing a second full-length project entitled "Sun and Shield" on March 11.

He will begin his 19-city tour to promote the CD with the show at Huntington Center.

We As Human is a Christian hard rock band based out of Sandpoint, Idaho. Their self-title debut album was relased in June, 2013, on Atlantic Records. They were signed to the label after the urging of Skillet’s John Cooper.
