GILBERTON, Pa. — A hearing for a controversial Pennsylvania police chief was halted when a handgun slipped from the holster of someone who was in attendance to support the chief.

The hearing today in Gilberton was for Chief Mark Kessler. He posted online videos of himself shooting automatic weapons while screaming profanities about liberals and the Second Amendment and town officials had sought to fire him.

The hearing was stopped when the handgun clattered onto the concrete floor directly behind Kessler and his lawyer. The supporter was asked to leave the cramped hearing room.

Officials say they will reconvene the hearing in a larger location at a later date.

Kessler’s attorney says officials at the meeting were concerned for the safety of everyone in the crowded room.
