3 adults charge in death of 4-year-old Detroit boy, who was accidentally shot by cousin, 4

DETROIT — A prosecutor has filed manslaughter charges against three adults in the death of a 4-year-old Detroit boy who was accidentally shot by his 4-year-old cousin as they played.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says the three were at a house Thursday when a 4-year-old girl found a loaded rifle in a room where children were playing.

Authorities say the girl shot Jamel Witcher Jr. In the chest.

Worthy says she filed involuntary manslaughter, child abuse and firearms charges Sunday against 53-year-old Patricia Johnson and 66-year-old Robert B. Richardson. The prosecutor says she charged 55-year-old Harvey Witcher with involuntary manslaughter and with being a felon in possession of a firearm.

It wasn’t immediately known if the suspects have lawyers.
