Officials: No evidence of shooting at University of Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla.  — Reports of shots fired at the University of Oklahoma’s architecture school prompted a brief lockdown today, but officials said no evidence of a shooting had been found as authorities continued to sweep the building.

The university issued a notice today that shots had been reported near the center of campus and that people should stay where they were and avoid Gould Hall.

Police soon issued an all-clear for most of the 30,000-student campus but continued to check Gould Hall, which was ringed with yellow-and-black police tape. No injuries were reported.

Gary Barksdale, an adjunct math professor, said he was walking across campus to his classroom when the campus-wide alert arrived and that he saw police escort someone out of Gould Hall.

“A guy had his hands over his head,” Barksdale said. “It looked like (police) had Tasers.”

The university’s president, David Boren, scheduled a news conference for early in the afternoon.
