Wintry mix of freezing rain, snow moves in across parts of Michigan, snarling traffic
2/20/2014MONROE, Mich. — A wintry mix of freezing rain, snow and sleet is falling across parts of Michigan’s Lower Peninsula, causing traffic-snarling crashes and filling pedestrians’ shoes with slush.
The National Weather Service says fog also is expected to create potential hazards on Thursday, followed by winds near 50 mph on Thursday night and into Friday in the southeastern part of the state.
Melting snow and rain could cause flooding in areas where temperatures are above freezing. Thursday’s temperatures pushed into the lower 40s in parts of lower Michigan.
A strong storm hitting other parts of the Midwest is expected to bring 9 to 13 inches of snow in parts of the Upper Peninsula through Friday.
