BIG RAPIDS, Mich. — A 19-year-old Ferris State University student has been charged with assault in the stabbing of another student at their dorm on the Big Rapids campus.

Ferris State says the attack happened before dawn Sunday, and the suspect was arrested that afternoon.

WPBN-TV says Ezekiel G. Fulgencio was arraigned Monday on charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm less than murder and assault with a dangerous weapon.

A judge set a $100,000 bond for Fulgencio and scheduled his next court appearance March 4. He’s is in the Mecosta County jail, and it’s unknown if he has a lawyer.

The injured student was treated at Spectrum Health Big Rapids and released. Ferris says the students knew each other and a pocket knife may have been used in the stabbing.
