PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. — The Coast Guard says a woman was rescued from a Central California bay after spending about 15 hours overnight in a partially submerged raft.

Lt. Joshua Dykman said the woman had gone out into Monterey Bay on Tuesday evening to watch the sunset. But at some point, the engine on her raft came off, opening a hole that caused it to deflate.

A fisherman found her the next morning off Pacific Grove and called the Coast Guard for help.

The fisherman, Mike Ricketts, told KPIX-TV the woman was too cold to react to anything. Her raft was folded up and about 80 percent submerged.

The station reported that she was expected to be released from the hospital in the next couple of days. She hasn’t been identified.
