LOS ANGELES — Two young men and two teenagers have been charged with murder in the fatal beating of a University of Southern California graduate student from China.

The Los Angeles County district attorney’s office says the four will be arraigned Tuesday in Superior Court on one count of murder with a special circumstance of murder in the course of an attempted robbery. Three face a special allegation that they personally used a dangerous weapon — a baseball bat.

The victim, 24-year-old Xinran Ji, was attacked at 12:45 a.m. on July 24 as he walked home to his off-campus apartment after a study group. He made his way to his apartment, where he was found dead around 7 a.m.

In 2012, two USC students from China were fatally shot during an off-campus robbery.
