Storm brings up to 4.25 inches of rain to southeastern Michigan, flooding expressways

TAYLOR, Mich. — A storm has dumped more than 4 inches of rain in parts of southeastern Michigan, flooding streets and highways and leading state police to urge drivers to stay off the interstate system in metropolitan Detroit.

The National Weather Service says 4.25 inches of rain fell Monday in the Detroit suburb of Taylor. It says 4 inches fell in Livonia and 3.75 inches in Dearborn.

WWJ-AM reports that flooding blocked Interstate 75 at several points Monday evening, as well as sections of I-94 and I-696.

The weather service says the Lower Rouge River was 1.86 feet above flood stage in the Detroit suburb of Inkster at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
