Meeting slated to discuss the 2014 city budget

Jim Seaman, chairman of Oregon City Council’s finance committee, has scheduled a meeting for 6:30 p.m. today in the council conference room at the Oregon Municipal Building to discuss the 2014 city budget. It will be followed at 8 p.m. by council’s organizational and committee of the whole meetings.

 

WALBRIDGE

Businesses collect new clothes for needy kids

Walbridge businesses, in conjunction with the Walbridge Centennial and Walbridge Fest committees, are collecting new hats, mittens, gloves, and scarves for needy local children.

Clothing items will be collected through Dec. 18 at The Skillet, Walbridge Night Club, 7-Eleven, Nietta’s, Walbridge Barbershop, Vito’s Pizza, Bubbles and Bones, Pat and Mike’s Barbershop, Walbridge Laundromat, the Tap Room, State Bank, Subway, W.F. Smithers, Three Cheers, CanDo Credit Union, the senior center at Main Street Church, and the Walbridge Library.

On Sunday, the village’s Holiday Parade of Lights steps off at 6 p.m. in Railway Park. New entries are welcome and should call 419-666-8345 for information. The parade route will be Breckman Street to Parkview Drive to East Union Street. Parking will be on North Main Street in front of Veterans’ Park.

Festivities then move to the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall, where Santa Claus will greet children and refreshments will be served. The hall, at 109 N. Main, will host a Christmas cookie sale from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 19. Cookies can be purchased then or ordered in advance by calling 419-666-6561.

The Centennial and Walbridge Fest committees encourage residents to decorate their homes for the season. Prizes will be awarded for the best decorations at the Dec. 18 village council meeting: $100 for first place, $75 for second place, and $50 for third place.

On Dec. 22, Christmas caroling will begin at 6 p.m. at Veterans’ Park.

 

WOODMORE SCHOOLS

Board of education to hold work session

The board of education has scheduled a work session for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the board office, 349 Rice St., in Elmore. Its regular meeting will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 at the high school, in Room 101.
