News of Art: Artwork sale to benefit Launch Pad Cooperative

Workers put the finishing touches on the Detroit Institute of Arts exhibition, Watch Me Move: The Animation Show. The exhibit closes Jan. 5.

Launch Pad Cooperative’s 8 X 8 fund-raiser has been rescheduled to 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday because of last week's weather. For one night, visitors can purchase works of art, 8-inches-by-8-inches in size, donated by about 50 artists. Each piece will be sold for $20 and proceeds will benefit the gallery, owned and operated by a group of artists. The gallery is at 911 Jefferson Ave. Information: launchpadcooperative@gmail.com.

Photos by Andrew Weber will be featured at a one-night exhibit, 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, in LeSo Gallery, 1527 Starr Ave. Weber traveled with the Food for Thought Mobile Pantry in the fall, taking pictures for the show. Information: www.facebook.com/​lesogallery.

Nora Sallows will teach painting from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Mondays, beginning Jan. 13, in the Fulton County Senior Center, 240 Clinton St., Wauseon. The fee is $15 per class and includes supplies. Sessions will continue for up to six weeks, depending on interest, and are open to county residents age 60 and older. Reservations, required by Dec. 31, can be made by calling 419-337-9299.

Watch Me Move: The Animation Show, continues through Jan. 5 at the Detroit Institute of Arts. The museum will be closed Dec. 24, 25, and Jan. 1. Admission is charged to both the museum and the exhibit. Information: tickets.dia.org and 313-833-7971.

The University of Michigan Museum of Art has received a Challenge Grant of $500,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities to support Dynamic Humanities Connections, a program that aims to diversify its programming both onsite and via new technology-based interpretive tools. The grant requires a three-to-one match from nonfederal sources, and support is being sought from the university’s Victors for Michigan campaign. The free museum is at 525 S. State St., Ann Arbor.
