Spotlight: The Polka Zone

Lineup: Mike Machinski, trumpet and vocals; Dick Zunkiewicz, lead trumpet and vocals; Ken Jankowski, drums and vocals; Ron Przybylski, clarinet, sax, and lead vocals; Larry Lipper, accordion; and Mark Przybylski, sound board and roadie.

Year formed: 2010. Previous bands were The Starlighters and The 3RD Edition. They retired from The 3RD Edition in 1988. After retiring from their "real" jobs, they decided to get back together in 2003 as The 3RD Edition for family functions only. Then changed the name to The Polka Zone in 2010. They all started playing Polka music in 1964 and it continues today.

Influences: The Bob Zielinski Band, the Imperials, the Troubadours, and the Belvederes

Favorite venue: Annual Lost Peninsula Marina Polish Party.

Upcoming public events: Toledo Area Polka Society Dance on Saturday at Conn-Weissenberger, 2020 W. Alexis Rd., LaGrange St. Polish Festival in July, and the Lost Peninsula Marina in August.

Recordings: As The 3RD Edition, Lagrange St. Polka recorded live at LaPark nightclub in 1983. Currently working on a Polka Zone CD.
