Beach Boys to open summer concert series

Beach Boys play at Centennial Terrace Saturday.

■ The Beach Boys will bring the warmth of summer to Centennial Terrace Saturday, kicking off the start of the summer concert series at the venue. The band, known for hits including Good Vibrations, Wouldn‘t It Be Nice, and California Girls, reunited in 2012 to celebrate the group's 50th anniversary with a 73-city tour. That year, the group also released its 29th album, That‘s Why God Made Radio. Gates at Centennial Terrace open at 6:30 p.m. and showtime is 8 p.m. Tickets range from $29.50 to $55 and are available at the Stranahan Theater box office, by calling 419-381-8851, and online at etix.com.

■  Hometown chefs creating one-of-a-kind recipes that offer a new twist on the classic PB&J, locally crafted beers, and area musicians will come together for Jam City 2014. The Food for Thought benefit will feature sandwich samples from 16 area restaurants and live performances by Andrew Ellis, Dean Tartaglia (of the Silent Lions), Nathan Roberts & the New Birds. ■ The Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northwest Ohio is in need of volunteers for its annual Spring Clean-Up Day. Crews are needed Saturday to help plant flowers, spread mulch, and pull weeds. Start time is 10 a.m. and lunch will be served at noon. Volunteers should bring their own work gloves and prepare to get dirty. To sign up, call Portia at 419-471-4663 ext. 207.

■ Sip tea and learn about the women of the French Town settlement from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at River Raisin National Battlefield Park in Monroe. Guest speakers will discuss notable women in history from Monroe, as well as perform demonstrations of Old World art forms, including a spinning wheel and crocheting. There will also be hand quilting demonstrations and several blends of tea and homemade refreshments. Reservations are not required and admission is free. Information: 734-243-7136.
