A reception for a show of 30 paintings from private collections by the late Earl North will be 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Aug. 10 in Library House Gallery, 24124 Front St., Grand Rapids, Ohio. Frank North, the artist’s son, will co-host the reception with the gallery. North’s paintings are on view and will be for the next few months with hours of 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. WoodsStock, a new music and art festival, will be 10 a.m. to midnight Saturday at Schedel Arboretum and Gardens. Admission is $25. There will be 50 artist booths, eight bands on two stages, and a classic car show. Food and beverages will be sold.
Parking/shuttle service will be at Woodmore High School, 633 Fremont St., Elmore, with trips to Schedel every 10 minutes. In Rossford, beginning at 3 p.m., a shuttle will run between the Courtyard Marriott, 9789 Clark Dr., and Schedel.

Calls for artists:
● A juried art fair slated for Oct. 4 in Point Place seeks people to exhibit their wares, with an Aug. 15 deadline. The fair will be along a public path between Summit Street and Lighthouse Bay. George Benson, Sr.’s landscapes, some with an expressionistic attitude and bold palette, will be in Downtown Latte Friday through Aug. 28. The shop is at 44 S. St. Clair St.

Two free tours for people who have mild memory loss and their companions are upcoming at the Toledo Museum of Art. Bon Appetit, at 1 p.m. Saturday, will look at art that incorporates images of food.
A 90-minute program themed to music and art and including an activity will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 8. Pre-registration is required for the latter tour by phoning 1-800-272-3900.

A mixed media workshop, Rock, Paper, Scissors, will be at 2 p.m. Aug. 8 in Way Public Library. Debra Buchanan will teach techniques such as sponging, stenciling, antiquing, use of tissue and special papers, dyes, and gelli plate monoprinting.
Basic supplies will be furnished and participants can take in other items they’d like to incorporate into their pieces such as found objects, poetry, sheet music, ribbons, fabric scraps, photocopied photographs, wallpaper, newspaper print and sentimental tidbits to personalize their composition. The fee is $40.

An art fair/museum walk will combine with a downtown farmers’ market for a day of activities Aug. 9 in Tiffin. The market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the art fair from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the museums from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tiffin Art Fair will be at Courthouse Square at Washington and Market streets. Open will be the Tiffin Art Guild, Tiffin Glass Museum, Enchanted Moment Doll Museum, Seneca County Museum, American Civil War Museum of Ohio, Tiffin University Diane Kidd Gallery, and Tiffin Historic Trust. A bus trip to visit contenders for the Art Prize in Grand Rapids, Mich., will be Oct. 5. Registration deadline is Aug. 30 and tickets are $50.
The bus will leave the Waterville Kroger parking lot at 9 a.m and return about 9 p.m., providing participants with free time from noon to 6 p.m. to check out the 1,500 entries in 190 venues. Information: Silver Lining Gallery, 122 Mechanic St., Waterville, and 419-441-0025.
At the 19-day Art Prize, artwork is displayed at venues in and around downtown Grand Rapids from Sept. 24 to Oct. 12. Top prizes are $200,000 for a piece selected by judges, and $200,000 for the artist who gets the most votes from the public.
Last year the event drew an estimated 400,000 visitors and 1,524 artists. Art Prize was founded in 2009 by Rick DeVos, grandson of Amway’s co-founder. Learn more about Art Prize at www.artprize.org.
