Art groups to sell, demonstrate work at TBG

Arts in the Garden will be 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Toledo Botanical Garden. Art groups based at the garden will sell their creations and demonstrate how they craft them. Performances will be by Children’‍s Theater Workshop, Toledo Ballet, a roving magician, and musicians. There will be coloring stations for kids and food trucks. Information: toledogarden.org.

The Levis Commons Fine Art Fair will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Aug. 16 and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 17 in the Town Center at Levis Commons. About 125 people have rented table space to show their arts and crafts. A children’s tent will be staffed by students from the Toledo School for the Arts. Monroe’s 11th Fine Art Fair will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Loranger Square on East First and Washington streets downtown. In addition to 80 art booths, it will offer a children’s area near the Lotus Fountain and musicians performing in the gazebo. And, it’s a short walk to the River Raisin Jazz Festival in St. Mary’s Park on the River Raisin.

Winning best of show out of 80 contenders who submitted 220 pieces to the seventh Northwest Ohio Community Art Exhibition is Willie N. Shahraki-Heard of Toledo, for her 18-inch-by-24-inch oil painting on canvas, The Old General Store. The nonjuried show provides artists with the opportunity to display their work in a professional gallery setting. The show was held in June and July in the Bryan and Wankelman galleries in the Fine Arts Center at Bowling Green State University. Shahraki-Heard’s painting, set in her home state of Alabama, is a nostalgic portrayal of an old-fashioned, rural store. It and other winning art from the show will be hung at Myles Baker Street, a Bowling Green pastry shop and cafe at 434 E. Wooster St., Aug. 14 -29.

It could be called New Orleans Still Life with Blues: Under Construction, and it begins tonight at 8:30 when a curtain rises and Dooley Wilson sings and strums Delta blues on his slide guitar against a background inspired by N’Awleans. Draw to Music is a new twist on drink ’n draw events. It’‍s hosted by Art Supply Depo, 29 S. St. Clair St.

Doors open at 8. Attendees can draw the musician or still-life elements in the set that’s been created by artists for sketchers and painters of all levels. People may take their own beverages and art paraphernalia, or purchase art supplies at the store. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door, available at www.artsupplydepo.com/​workshops/​draw-to-music. The shop plans to make Draw to Music a recurring event on the first Thursday of the month. Information: 419-720-6462.

● The Arts Commission is updating its Glass City Glass brochure which includes information on people who make glass, galleries that sell it, and Toledo’s contributions to the studio glass movement. ● Tours of medieval art will be at 8 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Meet in Libbey Court.

● Video game producers Nathaniel McClure, Navid Khonsari, and Blaine Graboyes will discuss the future of gaming at 7 p.m. Aug. 15 in the Little Theater.

● Get ’‍em while they’re small: a 30-minute tour for babies will begin at 6 p.m. Aug. 15 in the Family Center.

● At 8 p.m. Aug. 15, a tour will show and explain The Art of Seeing Art.

Rug hooking will be celebrated Aug. 13-16 at Sauder Village in Archbold, when hundreds of beautiful hand-made rugs are displayed and thousands of fans come to see them as well as to attend workshops and shop from vendors.
