OBJECTThe Black Swamp Arts Festival is Sept. 5-7, with music, food, art and craft, and a fantastic 2014 poster. Artists will sell in two areas, each with scores of booths: the juried show and the Wood county Invitational Art Show, both open for business 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. The Chalk Walk — huge, skilled chalk drawings made on the street that carry cash prizes — will be noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. A Youth Arts Village, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday, offers kids the chance to make some of the coolest projects around. Information: www.blackswampfest.org.

Art Walk is 6 to 9 tonight in the Warehouse and UpTown districts of downtown. Thirty galleries, studios, and eateries will be open to the public. Maps are available at theartscommission.org. The final Art Walk of the year will be 6 to 9 p.m. Sept. 25. Information: 419-254-2787.

Calls for artists:
● American Frame invites artists to apply for its new and free monthly online contest at www.americanframe.com by submitting at least five approved images. Deadline is the 15th of each month. Entries will be uploaded to a third-party app on American Frame’s Facebook page and the public will vote for the winner who will receive cash prizes or framing materials. ● LeSo Gallery seeks submissions for its Overture III exhibition. Deadline is Sept. 7. Selected pieces will highlight the diversity of contemporary art. Information: www.lesogallery.com/opportunities/overture-3-call-for-artists
● The Ohio Online Visual Artist Registry, an online database that showcases the work of 1,300 artists, is accepting entries for its ninth annual show. Deadline is Sept. 19. The juried show, with cash prizes, is open to Ohio artists 18 and older who are registered in OOVAR. Up to three works of original art created within the past three years may be submitted. At the Toledo Museum of Art, a 7 p.m. Sept. 5 talk by Dick Putney in the Little Theater will zero in on monuments to British soldiers killed in World War I and laid to rest in cemeteries in western France. Many memorials were designed by architect Edwin Lutyens. Putney is a history professor at the University of Toledo.
A tour of the exhibit Fun and Games: The Pursuit of Leisure, in the Works on Paper Gallery, will be led by curator Ed Hill at 2 p.m. Sept. 7.

Opening Friday is Reverb: Recent Abstraction in Painting in the Fine Arts Center’s Bryan Gallery at Bowling Green State University. Participating artists — Scott Anderson, Christie Blizard, Angelina Gualdoni, Willie Kohler, Mary Laube, Dana Saulnier, Linnea Spranzy, and Deborah Zlotsky — were invited because of their investigations into expressive mark-making and gestural iconography. The show continues through Sept. 28.
