An off-duty Toledo police sergeant working security at a downtown bus station was punched in the face Friday by a man who refused to leave, according to court records.

Charged with felonious assault, resisting arrest, and loitering is David Riley, 30, of 2243 W. Laskey Rd. He is scheduled to be arraigned today in Toledo Municipal Court.

Sgt. Diane Chandler was working security at the Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority’s Park Station, Erie Street and Madison Avenue, on Friday morning when she told the suspect, who she reports was loitering, to leave.

The suspect refused, and when the sergeant, who was dressed in her police uniform, tried to arrest him, he resisted and allegedly punched her in the face, according to court documents. A witness helped the sergeant detain the suspect until backup officers arrived.

He was held Friday in the Lucas County jail pending arraignment. Sergeant Chandler was not seriously injured.
