Block Watch meeting will delve into crime stats
2/28/2013The Zion United Methodist Church in South Toledo will be the location of a Beverly Block Watch meeting Monday from 7 to 8 p.m.
A Toledo Police Department representative is scheduled to talk about different crime statistics and information to update the neighborhood about local criminal activity.
Block watch chair Paul Raczkowski said he is excited to hear some of the stats so members can be more knowledgeable about what to look for.
“Toledo Police Chief [Derrick] Diggs has used these stats to put muscle on places with a lot of crime to see how to solve a problem,” Mr. Raczkowski said.
Mr. Raczkowski said the meetings started out with 20 to 30 people at the library and now sometimes have up to 100 people depending on the weather. He hopes for a large crowd, as there are a variety of topics that will be addressed, including scams, security, safety tactics, and even information about rat problems.
“This helps keep a lid on our neighborhood and keep South Toledo safe,” Mr. Raczkowski said. “We are people taking ownership of our neighborhood.”
