Toledo police are looking for a man who reportedly tossed a female employee around “like a rag doll” as he tried to leave a Dorr Street dollar store without paying for merchandise.

The robbery was reported Monday at 5:12 p.m. at Family Dollar, 551 Dorr.

Maria Maroufi approached the man, who was seen on surveillance feeds trying to leave the store with items he had stuffed into his jacket, according to a Toledo police report. Ms. Maroufi, a store employee, asked the suspect for the merchandise as he attempted to leave the store.

When the suspect refused to comply, the employee tried to take the merchandise — car-washing products and air fresheners worth about $20 — but her hand got caught in the suspect’s jacket, the report states.

The pair got into a tussle and the woman was thrown around, according to the report.

The suspect fled on a “yellowish” bike and carried a red bookbag. He is described by authorities as 5 feet, 8 inches tall, 180 pounds, and about 40 years old. His jacket was ripped during the struggle. The woman declined to be taken to a hospital. The merchandise was recovered at the scene.
