FINDLAY — A Kenton, Ohio, man was killed and another was hurt seriously Tuesday when their sport utility vehicle was struck by a train at a CSX crossing in Hancock County’s Jackson Township, sheriff’s deputies said.

William Craig, 23, the front passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Joshua Todd, 23, the driver, was flown to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. He was listed in critical condition late Tuesday night, a hospital spokesman said.

Deputies said Mr. Todd was westbound on Township Road 168 about 2:30 p.m. and did not stop for a southbound train.

The train struck the passenger-side door of the SUV. The vehicle became airborne, struck a railroad crossing sign and a utility pole, and landed on its top.

The crossing is marked only with a sign, deputies said. The crash remained under investigation.

The rail crossing is more than 45 miles south of Toledo.
