Police were looking for those responsible for shooting a Toledo man in the torso Tuesday night while he was standing near a memorial for a 2010 homicide victim.

Johnny Mays, 23, was listed in serious condition at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center on Wednesday morning; in the evening a hospital spokesman said there was no patient there by the last name “Mays.”

The shooting outside 351 Islington St. was reported to police at 9:25 p.m.

It occurred near a memorial for Marquise Chandler, who was shot and killed outside 349 Islington in April, 2010.

The shooting was described by witnesses as a drive-by, although witnesses gave police conflicting information about the type and number of suspect vehicles.

Police ask that anyone with information call Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111.
