Bond set at $250,000 for man who failed to register as sex offender

A Florida man who is required to register as a sex offender -- and who had recently moved to Toledo -- was arrested Sunday for not notifying the Lucas County Sheriff's Office.

Jason Solomon, 55, who is listed in court documents as “homeless,” is being held in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $250,000 bond for a charge in Toledo Municipal Court of failure to register as sex offender.

The U.S. Marshals in Toledo received a tip from marshals in Miami that the suspect had moved to Toledo.

On Sept. 26, Deputy U.S. Marshal Chris Hodge filed an affidavit for the arrest of Solomon, who is classified as a sexually violent predator and requires offenders to register their address every 90 days for the rest of their lives.

According to an affidavit, Solomon has been living in Toledo since at least Sept. 12.

Toledo police officers arrested Solomon on Sunday morning after finding him drunk in the 500 block of Nevada Street.

Officials said Solomon was convicted in Miami in 1982 of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a child younger than 12. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison. After his release, he re-offended in 1988 and was sentenced to serve 15 years in prison for a lewd and lascivious sex act of a child younger than 16.

In 2008, Solomon was convicted of failure to register in Florida and spent another year in prison.

Officials with the Miami-Dade Police Department said Solomon stopped registering his address in June.

A statement from the U.S. Marshal's Office says federal charges against Solomon are pending.
