Bond set at $1 million for man accused of killing mother

A man accused of stabbing his mother to death was ordered to remain in the Lucas County jail today, in lieu of bond.

Bond for Anthony Bertolina, 34, was set at $1 million. He is charged with murder.

He is accused of killing Mary Bertolina, 56, who was found dead inside her South Toledo home, at 3158 Winston St., at about 12:30 p.m. Monday.

According to court records, Mr. Bertolina reportedly told Toledo police Detective Kermit Quinn that he stabbed his mother with a hunting knife.

Ms. Bertolina was a longtime Blade employee and was working as a regional circulation manager.

He is to be in court again for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 17.
