Wrong-way crash snarls I-75 north lanes

A 40-year-old Toledo man was taken to Mercy St. Charles Hospital in Oregon from the scene of a wrong-way crash on I-75 in Northwood on Sunday night.

Robert L. Snyder was driving a car south in the northbound lanes of the interstate about 9:53 p.m., according to the Ohio Highway Patrol.

Snyder's car struck head-on a semi tractor operated by Shane A. Neves, age 38, of St. Paris, Ohio, according to the patrol, which said that Mr. Neves, who was northbound, saw the car approaching him and came to a complete stop before it hit him.

After the car struck the truck, the car went off the interstate and came to rest in the median.

Mr. Neves was not injured but the truck sustained minor damage and was towed from the scene.

Snyder remained in the emergency room at St. Charles early this morning. The patrol described his injuries as minor.

Both drivers were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to the patrol.

The car involved is thought to have entered I-75 the wrong way from Miami Street, after hitting some vehicles there as well, according to Northwood police.

The patrol reported that alcohol is a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.

Traffic on I-75 northbound between Buck and Wales roads was backed up for about an hour.
