Man rescued after jumping from city bridge

A man was rescued after jumping off a bridge over Swan Creek and falling on ice in the central city Saturday, authorities said.

The man, whose name was not released, was taken by a Lucas County EMS to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo police said. His name and condition were not released.

The incident occurred about 9:45 a.m. on the South Summit Street bridge over Swan Creek near Oliver Street, police said.

Police said they were investigating reports that the man had jumped to avoid getting struck by a vehicle that had spun out of control on the snow-slickened bridge.
