Toledo man shot in leg the latest victim in a string of shootings in city

An argument ended today with a man being loaded into the back of an ambulance with a gunshot wound to the leg.

The victim, whose name has not yet been released, was shot outside 709 Prouty Ave. in the Old South End.

Police Sgt. Geoffrey Glover said the victim told police he and another man were arguing and the victim turned to leave when he was shot in his left calf just after 1 p.m. today.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment; the injury did not appear to be life threatening, police said.

Sergeant Glover said they did not yet have the suspected shooter but were "working on it."

The shooting today is only the latest in a series of shootings that started Friday evening and continued all weekend. There were numerous shooting incidents, resulting in five injuries, over the busy, violent weekend.

Three people who said they were shot showed up at Toledo Hospital on Friday evening.

Injured were Marcus Patton, 21, who was shot in his back, and Richard Quin, 21, who was shot in his right cheek.

Keith Hamilton, 23, thought he had been shot, but according to a police incident report, a bullet grazed his hair and he was released from the hospital.

The trio told police they were near South Detroit Avenue and Buckingham Street at 4:38 p.m., sitting in a red Chevolet Malibu, when at least one of four men wearing all red in a silver Chevolet Impala opened fire.

Police said they were not able to find the crime scene. The Malibu had several large bullet holes in it, police said.

Just after midnight Saturday, police were called to a home in the 3300 block of Maple Street in North Toledo.

The homeowner, Carl Adams, told police he and his wife, Jo-Beth, were in bed when their dog started barking and Mr. Adams went to investigate.

Mr. Adams saw someone in his attached garage; Mr. Adams started back toward his bedroom and the suspect apparently heard him and fired a shot at Mr. Adams, according to a police incident report.

The two then struggled over the gun, a second shot was fired, and then Mr. Adams was struck on the head with the gun.

The suspect dropped the weapon and he and a second suspect fled, police said.

At 3:25 a.m. Saturday, shots were fired inside King of Diamonds Gentleman's Club, 707 Matzinger Rd., the former Remy's Gentleman's Club.

Police initially responded there for a person shot, but no victims were found. Officers did find a shell casing and a bullet near the stage. A bullet hole was found in the ceiling.

Less than an hour later, at 4:08 a.m., two men were shot outside an after-hours club at 1402 Norwood Ave.

Edward Skelton, Jr., 40, and William Skelton, 36, were found outside on the ground with gunshot wounds to their legs, police said.

The two were taken to Toledo Hospital for treatment.

Saturday afternoon, at 12:45 p.m., Kevin Stuart, 24, was dropped off at Toledo Hospital by a friend after he was shot in his left arm, police said.

Mr. Stuart told police he can “kick it” with all of the major gangs and did not know who shot at him in a reported drive-by. He told police he was walking near Elm and Bancroft streets when a dark-colored sedan went by and shots were fired.

None of the people injured over the weekend suffered life-threatening injuries, police said.

It was not clear if any of the incidents were related.

No arrests have been made.
