City tells residents to shovel their sidewalks
2/10/2014The city of Toledo will begin taking action today against residents and businesses for failing to remove snow and ice from sidewalks, according to a notice distributed by Mayor D. Michael Collins.
The Municipal Code requires that sidewalks in the public right of way must be cleared within 24 hours at the end of a snowfall. Residents in violation could face a $75 fine, according to the city.
The mayor’s office said the city will focus on primary streets along the TARTA bus route.
“We strongly urge residents to take care when traveling in areas where sidewalks have not been shoveled, as well as urging neighbors to assist neighbors who may not be physically capable of snow removal to clear their sidewalks,” the office said.
The city of Bowling Green is also asking residents to keep their sidewalks clear.
All property owners are required to clear snow and ice from sidewalks abutting their premises, and failure to do so may result in a citation or prompt the city to order the walk be cleared at the owner's expense, city officials said.
