There was something else the 13-year-old boy who called police for help needed to show the officers at his West Toledo home.
The boy led Officers Tony Sosko and Ian Lower into the basement of 910 Wamba Ave. and straight into a small-scale marijuana-grow operation, according to a police report.
The boy’s father, Ryan Danford, 41, and Mr. Danford’s live-in girlfriend, Alice Chevalier, 41, were arrested on various charges.
Mr. Danford, who appeared in court Monday and remains in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond, is charged with drug paraphernalia, endangering children, assault, domestic violence, possession of marijuana, trafficking in marijuana, and illegal manufacturing of drugs.
Ms. Chevalier was charged with drug paraphernalia, endangering children, and permitting drug abuse. She was also arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court on Monday and was released on a supervised own-recognizance bond.
Police were called to the Wamba Avenue home at 11:15 p.m. Sunday when the teen called 911 to report that his father and Ms. Chevalier were fighting. Officers Sosko and Lower said the front porch doors were open and furniture was broken and strewn about the porch.
Officers were let into the home by Mr. Danford; officers asked about the boy who called for police and were told he was in the basement. An 11-year-old child was also in the home, police said.
Officers went into the basement stairwell and were confronted by the teen who said there was something he needed to show them. In the basement, officers found the 17-plant grow operation, the report states.
Vice officers responded to the home and confiscated the plants, a marijuana grinder, two glass pipes, two grow lights, two “converters,” plastic baggies, and $228.
