Two young boys who were briefly lost on the Lake Erie ice Monday were found about two hours later.

The boys, 12 and 15 years old, were with family walking on the ice at Maumee Bay State Park when they wandered a little ahead of the group, said Ohio Department of Natural Resources spokesman Matt Eiselstein.

Because of blowing snow and low visibility, the family could not find the youths and reported them missing at about 3 p.m., Mr. Eiselstein said. The boys were found safe and brought back to shore by first responders, Mr. Eiselstein.

Mr. Eiselstein was told the boys were found “safe and sound,” although it was not clear whether they suffered any injuries from cold and ice exposure.

Their names and other information were not released Monday.
