Man dies in vehicle collision with ODOT truck

FREMONT — A 22-year-old man was killed Sunday when the vehicle he was driving collided with the back of an Ohio Department of Transportation truck on U.S. 6 just west of State Rt. 19 in Sandusky County, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.

Daniel Johnson, of Helena, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The driver of the ODOT truck, Donald Schlea, 54, also of Helena, was taken to Fremont Memorial Hospital.

Troopers with the Fremont post said the crash occurred at 8:52 p.m. Mr. Johnson was eastbound on U.S. 6 when he crashed into the rear of the ODOT truck, troopers said.

The accident remained under investigation.
