Traffic returns to normal on U.S. 250; Semi driver injured in crash near Milan
3/25/2014MILAN, Ohio — Traffic on U.S. 250 near Milan has returned to normal after a tractor-trailer rig overturned early today at the intersection of the expressway and State Rt. 113, injuring the driver, spilling the load of scrap metal, and closing the northbound lanes of the expressway, the Ohio Highway Patrol said.
Todd Elam, 42, of Tipp City, Ohio, the driver, was taken to Fisher Titus Medical Center, Norwalk, Ohio, with minor injuries, according to the patrol's Sandusky post. He was later released after treatment, a hospital spokesman said.
The crash occurred about 6:05 a.m. in Erie County's Milan Township. Mr. Elam was trying to turn from eastbound Route 113 onto northbound U.S. 250 when he lost control of the semi, causing it to overturn and spill diesel fuel, oil , and 42,000 pounds of scrap metal on the median and the northbound lanes of the expressway, troopers said.
The lanes remained closed for hours. They were opened to traffic sometime before 3:30 p.m., a patrol dispatcher said.
The driver was cited for failure to control the vehicle, troopers said.
Milan, which is in Erie and Huron counties, is about 60 miles east of Toledo.
