36 Ohio officers complete advanced vehicle training
3/30/2014Three dozen law enforcement officers from several northwest Ohio agencies recently completed advanced emergency vehicle operations training at a road-race course near Columbus.
Six Hancock County sheriff’s deputies, three from Paulding County, and one from Allen County, plus 12 Sandusky police officers, nine from Fostoria, three from Defiance, and two from Findlay completed the six-hour course offered by the Ohio Department of Public Safety at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington.
The course included both classroom instruction and practical exercises on the 2.4-mile, 15-turn road-race course overseen by Ohio Highway Patrol emergency vehicle operations instructors and veteran race-car drivers. The classes are paid for with casino law-enforcement training funds.
“The leading cause of on-duty deaths of law enforcement officers nationally is automobile-related traffic crashes,” said John Born, the public safety department’s director. “Driving skills are perishable. This advanced training provides officers from across Ohio the opportunity to improve their skills.”
The northwest Ohio deputies completing the course include Michael Cortez, Mike Devore, Matt Kinsinger, Thomas Miller, Mark Price, and Timothy Saltzman from Hancock County; William Dickerson, Andre McConnahea, and Ryan Ream from Allen County, and Nick Mendez from Paulding County.
The police officers include Brandon Bell, Brett Bethel, Cory Brian, Jonathan Bryant, Trey Farabee, Adam Nelson, and Travis Ricker from Fostoria; Ronald Brotherton, Eric Costante, Christopher Denny, Troy Dillinger, Cameron Greenawalt, Ernesto Hernandez, Natalie Lambert, Jason Martin, Erik Mohr, Edward Ohlemacher, Sean Oman and Stephen Ritterbach from Sandusky; Frank Herbert, Timothy Monhollen, and Eric Nicely from Defiance; and Don Dawson and John Schimmoeller from Findlay.
