Non-command Lucas County Sheriff employees today voted in favor of an “economic reopener” contract that would provide for the employees' first raises in six years.

The agreement, which must still be approved by the Lucas County Commissioners, won by a landslide with 263 votes for the deal and 11 against, said Pat Mangold, president of United Auto Workers Local 3056, which represents 418 deputies, corrections officers, dispatchers, clerks, and sanitation employees.

The 3 percent raise is retroactive to Jan. 1, Mr. Mangold said. The last raise was in January, 2008, he said. Also included in the contract is a provision for parking reimbursement and dress and uniform pay.

“It was negotiated as part of an economic package,” Mr. Mangold said.

The reopener agreement expires on Dec. 31. In the fall, the union will start negotiations on a new contract.
