MONROE — Fire inspectors were on the scene Sunday to investigate a blaze that resulted in the evacuation of Hidden Trail Apartments.

Of the 49 families evacuated from the building on 1513 Stewart Rd., no one was seriously hurt, authorities said. Two people went to the hospital because of smoke-inhalation concerns, said spokesman Nicole Pribbernow of the American Red Cross southeastern Michigan region.

The fire started at 9 a.m. Saturday in a third-floor apartment and was extinguished by 10 p.m.

The cause is still unknown, Frenchtown Township Fire Chief Mark Nicholai said Sunday. He said Saturday’s blaze was the area’s largest since a greenhouse fire in October, 2012.
