Oregon City Council and Mayor Mike Seferian last week appointed Assistant Fire Chief Paul Mullen to the position of fire chief. Chief Mullen has been performing the chief’s duties since March, when then-chief Ed Ellis retired. His salary will be $91,172.32.

City Administrator Mike Beazley said a search was done for Chief Ellis’ replacement and the best candidate was found in-house. “We feel good about the connection Paul brings to the community,” he said.

In other action, council approved a contract with Irene Renee Jardy to provide services as an independent contractor to the city’s juvenile diversion program. She has worked in this capacity for Oregon since June, 2007. Under the new contract, her pay will be $23 per hour, not to exceed $460 per week.

Council also approved hiring Superior Uniforms of Toledo as the supplier of uniform articles for the city’s police officers. Superior is the sole source of police uniforms in the Oregon area. The city and Superior have done business for years.
