2 firefighters killed in apartment blaze will have names added to memorial

Today, during an annual memorial service, the Toledo Fire Department will honor two firefighters who were killed in the line of duty on Jan. 26.

Privates Stephen Machcinski, 42, and James Dickman, 31, will be added to the department’s memorial at Chubb DeWolfe Park. The service starts at noon. Prior to the memorial, the department will host its annual awards ceremony at 10 a.m. in the Toledo City Council chambers.

Pvts. Machcinski and Dickman died while fighting a fire at 528 Magnolia St. on Jan. 26. The building’s owner, Ray Abou-Arab, 61, of 1311 Sierra Dr., is facing the death penalty for allegedly setting the apartment building on fire.‍ Mr. Abou-Arab is being held in the Lucas County jail on two counts of aggravated murder, each with death penalty specifications; two counts of murder; eight counts of aggravated arson and one count of tampering with evidence.
