5 drivers arrested during sobriety checkpoint in Erie County’s Perkins Township
6/28/2014SANDUSKY -- Five drivers were arrested during a sobriety checkpoint Friday night in Erie County’s Perkins Township, although only one was for alleged intoxicated driving.
Also arrested from among 23 vehicles directed to a diversion area were two people driving under suspension, one whom didn‘t have a driver‘s license at all, and one charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, the Ohio Highway Patrol reported.
The checkpoint was set up from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. on State Rt. 4 just south of Perkins Avenue. The state patrol was assisted by Perkins Township police and Erie County sheriff’s deputies.
Officers checked 590 vehicles in all. The one driver accused of operating a vehicle under impairment refused to take a chemical test and, when advised he was being arrested, complained of high blood pressure and anxiety, the highway patrol said. He was transported to Firelands Regional Medical Center and given a summons to Sandusky Municipal Court.
