At 11:40 a.m., a male of unknown age who wore red was shot in the groin while walking in the 600 block of Fernwood Avenue, several blocks from the overnight shooting scene, by occupants of a brown van that drove past him, police said.

Several vehicles began a pursuit of the sport utility vehicle, which continued on Fernwood and struck two parked cars near Wells Street. The light brown SUV later became disabled and its two occupants fled on foot.

One of them later turned up at ProMedica Toledo Hospital seeking medical treatment, police said. It was not clear if he was shot or injured in some other way. The second van occupant’‍s whereabouts were unknown.

Police are investigating Mr. Harris’‍ death as a homicide, and officers in the field said they suspect the later shooting was retaliation for his death, once that became known in the neighborhood.
