Both wounds were to Mr. Layson‘s torso, said Dr. Maneesha Pandey, a Lucas County deputy coroner. Mr. Layson, 35, was shot inside his auto-sales shop, R&D Auto Sales, 5010 Lewis Ave., at about 11:25 a.m. Tuesday. He was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center where, at 3:03 p.m., he was pronounced dead.

Dr. Pandey ruled the death a homicide, making it the 15th in the city this year.

Today, Terry Hayes, 48, of 3137 Lagrange St., was arraigned in Toledo Municipal Court for murder and aggravated robbery. He was ordered to remain in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $2 million bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 16.

Police allege that the suspect, who was booked into the jail just before 2 a.m., went into the auto-sales shop with a gun, got into a verbal confrontation with Mr. Layson, and then fired at least twice. The suspect allegedly fled with a "soft-sided computer case."
