BOWLING GREEN – A man who allegedly robbed a city Tan Pro, took police on a high-speed chase, and was ejected from his vehicle after crashing remained hospitalized today.

Police said Thomas Fred Quick Jr., 37, of Gaylord, Mich., was taken via helicopter to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center after the crash, which happened just before 9 p.m. Tuesday. He was last known to be in the intensive-care unit with serious injuries. A hospital spokesman did not have a condition for Mr. Quick.

Mr. Quick is charged with aggravated robbery, two counts of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer, and falsification.

Police allege that Mr. Quick went into Tan Pro, 1432 E. Wooster St., at about 8:50 p.m. and, armed with a knife, demanded cash from an employee. It was not clear if anything — cash or property — was taken. No one was injured.

The 911 call from an employee was first routed to the Wood County Sheriff's Office, and then to the Bowling Green State University Police Department. During a dispatch by the university police department, a city officer heard the call and saw a speeding vehicle on East Wooster, said police Lt. Brad Biller.

The suspect vehicle continued east on East Wooster and tried to get on southbound I-75, but spun out at the on ramp, the lieutenant said. The officer got out of his patrol car and tried to approach, but the suspect vehicle again took off, Lieutenant Biller said. The officer never lost sight of the suspect vehicle, which at times drove faster than 90 mph, and continued to chase the suspect who then got on southbound I-75 and then got off, and went west on Route 6. The vehicle then got off on Route 25 and, when attempting to again get on Route 6, the vehicle crashed and rolled multiple times.

No other injuries were reported in the chase and subsequent crash. Lieutenant Biller said the entire incident took place within about 5 minutes.
