A West Toledo man held police at bay for nearly three hours Thursday after he drove away from officers and pulled into his driveway — after crashing into a tree — and refused to come out of his house.

Bruce Maag, 50, of 3138 Brock Drive was charged with failure to comply with a police officer’s order and eluding or fleeing, a felony. He was in the Lucas County jail pending arraignment in Toledo Municipal Court.

Police stopped a motorist on Edgebrook Drive about 4:30 p.m., but he drove away instead of getting out of his vehicle, as officers had asked, Toledo police Sgt. Joe Heffernan said. No one answered the door on Brock, and a negotiator came to the scene about 6 p.m.

The resident surrendered about 7:30 p.m. after a police entry team used tear gas.
