A 16-year-old boy who walked out of a dollar store because he didn’t have enough money for his purchase was robbed, then shot at the command of a 41-year-old man.

Jeffery Burks of Toledo was shot in his lower left back at Dorr Street and Junction Avenue at 11:17 p.m. Tuesday, police said. He was taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital for treatment. The injury is not considered life-threatening.

Christopher Bourn of 1032 Lincoln Ave. is charged in Toledo Municipal Court with aggravated robbery. He was arraigned Wednesday and ordered to remain in the Lucas County jail in lieu of $75,000 bond.

According to an affidavit and a police incident report, the Burks youth was with family at a dollar store, but the boy walked out when he realized he didn’t have enough money and waited in the parking lot. There he saw someone he knew and got into his car. The car pulled onto Dorr, and the two men inside the car tried to rob the youth.

Police said a struggle ensued, and an unidentified suspect asked Bourn if he should shoot the youth. Bourn reportedly said yes.
