1 killed, 2 injured in Monroe County crash

Monroe County Sheriff‘‍s office released names this evening of the man who was killed and the two who were injured in a one-vehicle crash on Sylvania-Petersburg Road on Friday evening.

The front seat passenger, Eulogio Sargento-Salas, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The rear seat passenger, Uriel Lopez, 36, was flown to Mercy St Vincent Medical Center where he remains in critical condition.

The SUV driver, Pedro Mateo, 29, was taken to ProMedica Toledo Hospital where he remains in fair condition.

The crash occurred at about 9 p.m. just north of Ida Center Road in Summerfield Township.

The three men, all from Summerfield Township, were traveling south on Sylvania-Petersburg in a sport utility vehicle when for unknown reasons it left the roadway, traveled through a yard, and struck an asphalt semi trailer that was parked in a driveway, according to the sheriff‘‍s office.

None appeared to be wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, the sheriff’‍s office reported. The passenger air bags deployed as a result of the crash.
