Truck driver who hit Tony Packo’s identified
8/3/2014The driver of the tractor-trailer that crashed into the iconic Tony Packo’s Cafe in East Toledo has been identified by the Lucas County coroner’s office as John Altman, 62, of Holgate, Ohio.
An autopsy was performed Saturday.
A ruling in the death will require medical records and toxicology test results, said Dr. Maneesha Pandey, a Lucas County deputy coroner.
Mr. Altman died at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, where he was taken after the 7:15 a.m. Friday crash.
Damage to the interior of the eatery was less extensive than initially thought, said Tony Packo, Jr., chief operating officer of the restaurant, although the exterior and foundation will need work. The restaurant had anticipated being open for business on Saturday — until the water emergency. It will reopen after the water is declared safe, Mr. Packo said.
