Missing Bedford Township woman found safe, Ecorse police say

ECORSE, Mich. — An 18-year-old Temperance woman reported missing Thursday night after her car was found about a mile near her home in Bedford Township has been found safe in a Michigan community, authorities said.

Cpl. Chris Trevino of the Ecorse, Mich. police department said Hayley Turner was found unharmed in the city.

"She is safe and sound" he said. "I can't give you anymore information than that at this time."

About 10:08 p.m. Thursday, the sheriff‘‍s office was called to the area of Dean Road and Crabb Road after reports of a young woman who was missing under suspicious circumstances.

Sheriff Malone, who said he would provide updates on the missing woman periodically through the day, said that Miss Turner left her home on East Temperance Road shortly before 10 p.m. to go to the Family Video store at Dean Road and Lewis Avenue to rent an item. The sheriff said that after she left the video store, she was in her vehicle driving while talking on her cell phone with a friend and told the friend she saw a man in the ditch along Dean Road east of Crabb Road.

Miss  Turner, according to the sheriff, told her friend she was going to get out of the car to help him, and then said the man had a gun. That’‍s when the phone call ended, the sheriff said, who added that Miss Turner‘‍s friend contacted the victim’‍s father, Thomas Kirk Turner, and told him. Mr. Turner went to the Dean and Crabb roads‘‍ area and found his daughter’‍s car abandoned and his daughter missing. He then called authorities.

Sheriff Malone said that witnesses who have called the sheriff‘‍s office have reported that there was a westbound vehicle on Dean Road with one of its running lights not operating about the same time Miss Turner’‍s disappearance was reported, and the sheriff‘‍s office is looking for that vehicle.

The sheriff’‍s office has a K9 search unit and a sheriff‘‍s office helicopter involved in the search for the missing woman.

Miss Turner was a student at Notre Dame Academy in Toledo, starting as a freshman and was a junior last year. However, she left Notre Dame at the start of her senior year, according a Notre Dame Academy spokesman.
