Officials: Temperance teen made up kidnapping

TEMPERANCE — An 18-year-old Temperance woman fabricated a story about being abducted by gunpoint, according to Monroe County sheriff's detectives.

Hayley Turner, who was found unharmed Friday outside a home in Ecorse, Mich., was interviewed today by an FBI agent and sheriff's Detective Jeff Pauli.

"As a result of that interview, it was determined that the incident did not take place as originally reported," according to a news release issued today by the sheriff's office.

A search for Miss Turner began Thursday night after the teen's car was found unoccupied on Dean Road, just east of Crabb Road, in the township, about a mile from her home.

Her father, Thomas Turner, who is a Toledo dentist, found the car at the intersection after receiving a phone call from Miss Turner's friend

The friend had been talking to Miss Turner, who told her that she saw a man lying in the ditch and she was going to stop and leave the vehicle to check on him.

Moments later, the teen told her friend the man had a gun and the phone went dead. The woman‘‍s cell phone was found near the area where the car was found Friday.

The sheriff's office plans to forward the case to the county prosecutor's office for review, the news release said.
