Sandusky woman, 93, killed in 2-vehicle crash in Perkins Township

SANDUSKY, Ohio -- A 93-year-old woman died today after the car she was driving went through a stop sign in Perkins Township and was struck on the driver‘‍s side by another vehicle, authorities said.

The State Highway Patrol said Dolores Weichel of Sandusky, driving a 2003 Chevrolet Impala, turned left from Strub Road onto Old Railroad Road about 5:20 p.m. after failing to stop at the stop sign. Her vehicle was hit by a 2011 Chrysler minivan driven by Shannon Bramel, whose age was unavailable, of Castalia, Ohio heading north on Old Railroad. Police said Mrs. Bramel and two child passengers were treated for minor injuries at Firelands Regional Medical Center. Ms. Bramel was wearing a seatbelt and the children were in child safety seats.

Ms. Weichel was pronounced dead at the scene by Erie County Coroner Dr. Brian Baxter, police said. Ms. Weichel was wearing a seat belt. Police said both vehicles received severe damage.
